Typological and Thematic Studies
Since the 1990s, Heritage Victoria has commissioned studies to examine specific building types or
themes associated with the built environment.
These typically comprise an introductory essay, to provide a
historical and architectural context, and tabulated
data or citations for places across a predefined area
- often the entire
state of Victoria.
Built Heritage Pty Ltd has undertaken one typological study for Heritage Victoria: Stage 2 of the Survey of Post-War Built Heritage in Victoria (2010). This provided detailed assessment of places chosen from over 500
previously identified in the Stage One survey,
done by Heritage Alliance in 2008. Simon
was heavily involved in the earlier study,
which drew from his extensive knowledge of post-war heritage and his vast personal resources including his library,
research files and database of
post-war Australian architecture. Both stages are accessible on-line:
