Oral History

The office of BUILT
HERITAGE recognises the unique role that oral history can play in the
assessment and documentation of more recent heritage. In past
projects such as the City of Bayside Inter-war & Post-War
Heritage
Study (Heritage Alliance, 2008), Simon's contact with original
architects and clients provided crucial insight into patterns of
settlement, design sources and other factors, which greatly informed
the assessment of heritage significance. Amongst the many
architects who were consulted during that project were Neil Clerehan,
Peter Crone, James Earle, Harry Ernest, Neil Everist, Alan Hough, Helen
Holgar, Max May, Peter McIntyre, Phyllis Murphy, Rex Patrick, Lynton Reynolds, Abraham
Weinstock and Geoffrey Woodfall.
Since the mid-1990s, Simon Reeves has been recording interviews and
conversations with twentieth century architects and landscape
designers, as well as their families, colleagues, associates and
clients, in order to provide a lasting record
of individual careers.
